Wintering of Jet Skis

Winterizing your jet ski is a key process that ensures its longevity and  efficiency for the next season. Jet skis, although designed for water use, are not immune to damage caused by the cold winter conditions. Therefore, proper maintenance and storage of your jet ski during the winter is key to maintaining its functionality and aesthetics. In this blog, we will tell you how to prepare your jet ski for the winter to avoid costly repairs in the spring.

Choosing the right place to store jet skis winterized

One of the most important aspects of winterizing your jet skis should not be exposed to extreme weather conditions, such as rainy, snow, or frost. Here are the options for winter storage of your jet ski:

- Hangar or garage: The ideal place to store a jet ski is a dry, enclosed space, thanks to witch the scooter will be protected from frost, moisture and damage caused by snow or rain.

- Protective cover: If you don’t have access to a closed room, a protective cover is a good solution. Choose a cover made of waterproof and UV-resistant material. Remember to provide adequate ventilation to avoid moisture collecting inside the cover.

- Stand or platform: If you store your scooter outdoors, place it on a special platform to avoid contract with wet ground, reducing the risk of corrosion and moisture.

Securing your jet ski before winter:

- thorough cleaning of the jet ski

- flushing the systems, draining the water and removing the battery

- winterizing your jet ski

- refiling or emptying the fuel tank

- engine care and oil change

Preparing your jet ski for winter is a process that is worth spending some time on. The vehicle will be out of use for several frosty months, so it is worth making sure that- when summer begins you can use it without any worries, and even more so without the need for repairs. Maintaining a jet ski is not difficult and every user should be able to cope with this task. Proper wintering of your jet ski will allow you to avoid many additional costs, and above all a pleasant start to the next season. It is required to leave the jet ski with a full fuel tank for the winter. It can also be empty, but 100%. Leaving a small amount of fuel causes (with temperature changes) water to condense inside the tank. It is worth adding a fuel improver for the winter.

You can use special preparations that you add to the petrol, start the engine + garden water. Let it run for a few minutes so that the preparation, together with the petrol, penetrates the entire fuel system - preserving and cleaning it. It is also worth cleaning and drying the intercooler.
